a) Came to America with her mother, Anna, and her sister, Anna in 1892. Mary was fifteen years old. It took nine days and nine nights to get to America. They came on a steamship. Another passenger on the ship was Mr. Jacob Maresch, Mrs. Einberger's father.nMary explained the Grand dutchy of Baden (her birthplace) townlike settlement as a large circle of land and the families lived in the center. This was called a "dorf". Her mother had been corresponding with a friend who was already here in the Silver Lake area and decided to come to America. Their relatives and friends saw them off with tear filled eyes, wondering if they would ever see them again.nShe corresponded with folks "back home."nDuring the time her family was growing up, she sewed all their clothes with the exception of coats. She knit all the mittens (using denim to reinforce the inside part) and all the stockings they wore.nnobit Manitowoc Herald Times Saturday February 20 1960:nMrs. John Geigel, 82, of Rt 2 Reedsville died at her home about 8:30 Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 9:45 am Tuesday at Reedsville Funeral Home and at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, Reedsville, the Rev. William Koutnik officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Clarks Mills.nBorn in Germany Aug 16, 1877, daughter of the late George and Anna Stahl, Mrs. Geigel came to this country at the age os 15. She was married to John Geigel Oct 12 1897 at St. Nazianz. They farmed all their lives in the Town of Rockland. He died about 15 years ago.nThe deceased was a honorary member of the Christian Mothers of St Mary Church at Clarks Mills.nSurvivors include three sons, William of Manitowoc, Ed of Rt. 1 Reedsville, and Alphonse at home; four daughters, Monica of Rt 1 Reedsville, Mrs. Charles C Vondrachek of Reedsville and Mrs. Frank Dvorachek and Mrs. Edwin Sauer of Rt. 1, Whitelaw; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Schwab of St. Nazianz and Mrs. Sylvia Mertens of Milwaukee; 27 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Kaltenbrun of St. Nazianz, preceded her in death in January.nFriends may call at the funeral home after 2 pm Monday where the rosary will be recited at 8 pm.
